El miércoles 16 de Febrero se inauguró en las Arquerías del Ministerio de Fomento la Exposición “Efímeras, Alternativas habitables” comisariada por Carmen Blasco e impulsada por la Secretaria General de Vivienda y Actuaciones Urbanas para el que han seleccionado al Prototipo Bubble. La Exposición es una retrospectiva de las propuestas de vivienda efímera realizadas durante la últimas décadas e incluye desde los diseños de Archigram hasta trabajos recientes como los de Martín de Azúa pasando por los prototipos de Buckminster Fuller. Se divide en cuatro grandes grupos de proyectos bajo los títulos de Tecnología, Emergencia, Bajo Coste y Hazlo tu mismo (que es donde han incluido nuestro Prototipo de vivienda temporal Bubble). Además se realizarán una serie de conferencias y talleres en el propio espacio de exposición.

The prototype for temporary housing bubble have been selected among the 128 works (of the nearly 2,000 works submitted) that will form part of the award catalog Arquia/Proxima. It´s a biennial call open to all Spanish architects under 10 years of professional activity and this year the jury consisted of Carlos Quintáns, Lampreave Ricardo Sanchez, Javier Mozas, Felix Arranz, Santiago Cirugeda, Fernando Diaz and Francisco Cifuentes . Among the 128 works have been selected and featured 24 finalists in September.

El prototipo de vivienda temporal buBbLe han sido seleccionado entre las 128 obras (de las casi 2000 obras presentadas) que formarán parte del catalogo del premio Arquia/Próxima. Se trata de una convocatoria bienal abierta a todos los arquitectos españoles con menos de 10 años de actividad profesional y en esta edición el jurado estuvo formado por Carlos Quintáns, Ricardo Sanchez Lampreave, Javier Mozas, Feliz Arranz, Santiago Cirugeda, Fernando Diaz y Francisco Cifuentes. Entre las 128 obras se han destacado 24 seleccionados y 9 finalistas.

Architekturtage in Vorarlberg

We were participating in the Austrian Architekturtage last Friday May 28th. This Festival of Architecture reflect on architectural proposals on a 1:1 scale which attempt to explore complementary ways of occupation in current cities. On the initiative of the Vorarlberg Architecture Institute, the themes treated in the region focused on proposals for city nomads. The temporary dwelling prototypes buBbLe and TransformBox were exhibited for this purpose. In our case, we first place the house on the banks of Lake Constance, in the city of Bregenz. Next, we have gone to Dornbirn by train and installed the prototype on the market square. The prototype remained there until Saturday night, in an attempt to explore the relationships between citizens and new objects introduced in the urban landscape.

El pasado viernes 28 de Mayo participamos en el Festival de Arquitectura de Austria que reflexiona sobre las propuestas arquitectónicas a escala 1:1 que pretenden explorar modos complementarios de ocupación en la ciudad actual. Por iniciativa del Vorarlberg Architecture Institute, en esta región la temática se centró en las propuestas para nómadas urbanos y para ello se expusieron los prototipos de vivienda temporal Bubble y Transformbox. En nuestro caso primero situamos la vivienda en la orillas del lago Constanza, en la ciudad de Bregenz y después nos desplazamos en tren hasta Dornbirn para colocar el prototipo en la plaza del mercado donde permaneció hasta la noche del sábado, como exploración de las relaciones entre los ciudadanos y los nuevos objetos incorporados al paisaje urbano.

buBbLe tries to advocate a space and a time for non-permanent dwellings. We believe it is possible to create contemporary residential units that penetrate the city’s interstitial spaces. These units would thus complete the city’s functioning and allow for the newly arrived, or displaced people in general, to gradually settle in the city. Semi-regulated spaces that, accepting the transience of new residents, alter their character slightly and contribute to social inclusion.

In this case, we chose a parking space on the outskirts of the city.

As a starting point, we considered the need of having a minimal house that a person could carry with them. It could be either a house owned by that person, so it might be carried by any means (even by air), or a part of a mobile dwelling system made available for citizens in any city.

In our view, almost any camping system could cover the minimum needs, but it would not be adaptable to different situations. So we conceived a system with three preconditions: it should be possible to stand on the whole of its surface; its structure should be stable and its skin should be adaptable to the place and time of the stay; and the system should meet the minimum needs of hygiene and comfort.

In the cracks of programmed elements we find the most dynamic, convulsed spaced of the city every day. Urban voids (suitable for being spontaneously and immediately appropriated), public spaces (basically stable but with potential for programmed flexibility) and even some private spaces (for years underused and waiting to be exploited) might on many occasions receive non-permanent dwellings that solved temporary problems or decisions.
